Chinese Associations in Art
As a result of his long association with Chinatown, Robert Amos has painted not only street scenes and the exteriors of heritage buildings, but also scenes depicting the interiors of meetings halls belonging to various clan, county, religious and political organizations. In the book he co-authored with Kileasa Wong, Inside Chinatown, Amos presents photo-collages of some of these interior scenes. The images presented here include the exterior and interior of the Lee Association building, the meeting hall of the Hook Sin Tong Charity Association with its impressive stained glass dome, the Yen Wo Society building and the Tam Kung Temple on the fourth floor of that building. Other interior scenes include the shared meeting hall of the Chinese Freemasons and Dart Coon Club, the altar table of the Lung Kong Association, and the gymnasium of the Sheung Wong Kung-fu Club.
